King Khufu a.k.a Cheops as the greek say is by far one of the most significant pharaohs who ever sat on the throne of Egypt during the ancient Egyptian civilization.
His name means Khnum protects me, as Khnum was Egyptian ram-headed god of protection and fertility He is responsible for creating a wave of pyramid construction throughout the old kingdom.
King Khufu History
Khufu succeeded his father king Seneferu became the second king of the 4th dynasty of the old kingdom, Khufu’s mother was Queen Hetepheres. He ruled Egypt from 2589 B.C to 2566 B.C. He married two queens by the name Meritites and Henutsen, he had nine sons and fifteen daughters.
The Great Pyramid of Giza
The Great Pyramid of Giza is his main achievement which took about 20 years to construct. It stood 480 ft (145.5 m) tall, 31 of which have eroded since the time of the pharaoh and the source of everything we have known about Khufu.
It remains the tallest man-made structure in the entire world for nearly 4,000 years, it was designed by Hemiunu with the used of 2.3 million limestones each weighing 25 tons.
King Khufu Tomb
King Khufu believed the Great Pyramid was his personal stairway to heaven as it held his own tomb in the king's chamber, a way to join his rightful place with the gods.
The Great Pyramid was the first to have smooth sides, as opposed to having steps. Also, the sides perfectly correspond to the four cardinal points.
The architecture of the pyramid is quite brilliant and the manner of its precise construction is still an enigma and many mysteries still surround the pyramid till our current day.
Solar Boat
Probably the most enchanting and unique artifact in Egypt is the solar boat of King Khufu. It’s one of the oldest, biggest, and best-preserved monuments in Egypt and the world as it dates back to more than 4,500 years ago. It was thus identified as the world’s oldest intact ship and has been described as “a masterpiece of woodcraft” that could even sail today if put in water. It is able to showcase advanced navigation and craftsmen skill and technology.
The purpose of the boat was to make Khufu sail through the afterlife, it was one of two discovered in 1954, it is 143 ft long and 20 ft wide and is believed to have been constructed with a flat bottom composed of several planks, and it has been rebuilt from 1,224 pieces.
King Khufu Statue
King Khufu {Cheops} has no statues except for a very small statue 7.5 cm displayed at the Egyptian museum and is purely made out of ivory which was discovered in the city of Abydos.
