The Building History of the Egyptian Museum

The concept of an Egyptian museum was first constructed in 1835 near the Ezbekeyah Garden. However, it was later on moved to the Cairo Citadel in order to protect the heritage of Egypt. All of the museum artifacts were given to Archduke Maximilian of Austria in 1855 and are still located in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. A new museum was built in 1858 in Boulaq, under the director of the Egyptian department of antiquities, Auguste Mariette, at that time, but it was unfortunately destroyed by the Nile River flood.

The Egyptian Museum has never lost its spark no matter how many reformations were made. It’s another door that leads straight ahead to the epiphany that the ancient pharaohs, queens and kings, did really exist! Your visit to the museum will be another missing piece of the puzzle that put the ancient history of Egypt together and all the stories about the powerful figures.
